CHRISTIANS…WARNING: DANGER AHEAD!
Do we dare assume that the Republican party has a monopoly on Christian values? We want to act on abortion, homosexuality, and immigration but can we do it? Are there more dangerous threats to our faith and our nation looming in the darkness ahead? It may be time to awaken our consciences to greater dangers. Let’s take a look at some scriptural thoughts about the affairs of men in our time.
GOD GAVE MAN A FREE WILL CHOICE:
19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
20 That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
You made a choice to follow God, but God allows others to turn away from him. God placed you in the world with sinners. God allowed them to stay here with you, and Satan is their lord. You are called to be in the world while not being of it. So do we expect to force sinners to accept Jesus by passing laws? Or should we legislate against sin like prohibition? That only works if you have the votes to make the laws and enforce them. It didn’t work for prohibition, and it is even less likely now. So why is there so much more sin now, and even more vile types of sin?
GOD MADE MEN SIN EVEN MORE AFTER THEY DEPARTED FROM HIM:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
So the first sin was departing from God, but the manifestation became a multitude of lusts. God himself put this in motion. Over the last decades we have witnessed popular entertainment promoting these sins to our people. In fact many Christians were at one point participants. Actually we all sin in some form daily and hope to repent as we are made aware. But are we indeed aware of how many ways we are tempted. The Romans were reminded too.
Romans 2: 1-3
1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
As Christians we can easily focus on homosexuality, illegal immigration, and abortion. But are we aware of the rest of the multitude of sin that is unleashed on the world and our nation today?
WE ARE IN THE MINORITY IN THE WORLD:
MATTHEW 7: 13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Being a minority by order of God, it is unreasonable to expect to win popular elections in most cases. But you are the host of the Holy Spirit who makes you a shining example to the world. You are far more influential by your good example than by your actual power in the world. Jesus did not give us the example of the mighty political or military conqueror, but rather of the sacrificial example. God wants you to live here under their power while demonstrating the power of his love for the unlovely. You cannot force laws on those who are in the majority, as we learned during the prohibition years. But we can identify and work with those who are still influenced to do good. But we may have to open our conscience to the areas where we are still coming short of the glory of God. Consider our master’s voice on this subject:
THESE WILL NOT BE SAVED, THE ENEMIES OF GOD:
1ST CORINTHIANS 6:9-10
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
2 TIMOTHY 3:1-5
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
SO THE LIST INCLUDES:
- FORNICATORS: any sex outside of holy matrimony of man and woman
- IDOLATERS: any false gods
- ADULTERERS: marriage cheaters
- EFFEMINATE: transgender; cross-dressing
- ABUSERS OF THEMSELVES WITH MANKIND: homosexuals
- REVILERS: railers, noisy public accusation (Donald Trump, Westboro Baptist)
- UNCLEAN PERSON
- LOVERS OF THEIR OWN SELVES (Donald again?)
- DISOBEDIENT TO PARENTS
- WITHOUT NATURAL AFFECTION
- FALSE ACCUSERS
- DESPISERS OF THOSE THAT ARE GOOD
- LOVERS OF PLEASURES MORE THAN LOVERS OF GOD
ARE THOSE SINNERS WORSE THAN US? At times we ARE those sinners. We are called to repent, and may do so daily, but what of those with whom we form alliances? Is our political party aligned with our faith? Do we seek strong allies who can make political victories? Here is a sin that we may have overlooked:
1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
Now we know that out two main political parties both cater to big corporate donors. They also target what they consider to be the sins of the other party. Of the Christian targets named above the parties both might be said to target some of these sins. If we can identify problems that are actually sins in the eyes of God we should be able to support some of their goals. Sorting out the actual morality from the politically correct errors may still be a problem though. On occasion the media may identify actual errors or lies, but ethical opinions can vary more than scriptures.
Can we identify some favorite themes from all of this? Any kind of Christian purposes here may be a bit limited in both parties. The big panic button hot topics may shape up like this:
- HOMOSEXUALITY (big fear phobia here) (oops…FEARFUL is a sin too)
- IDOLATERS (only Muslims)
- LIARS (about immigration status)
- THIEVES (of the Republican kind only)
- COVETOUS ditto
- REVILERS: railers, noisy public accusation…like Trump
- UNHOLY (per “politically correct” standards)
AND THEY BOTH LIKE TO FIND THESE FLAWS IN THE OPPOSITION:
- LOVERS OF THEIR OWN SELVES
- ADULTERERS: marriage cheaters
- FALSE ACCUSERS
- DESPISERS OF THOSE THAT ARE GOOD
(And they usually do!)
So how are we attempting to purge the devils out of the other party? By aligning ourselves with the wealthy powers who can buy our leaders and prevent any of us from having a vote that counts. Oh…THAT is a sin too! What do those great leaders do for fun and fellowship?

ARE THEY ACHIEVING GODLY FELLOWSHIP THERE?
CORPORATIONS ENTERTAINING AT THE BOHEMIAN GROVE…
Is this the leadership of our ship of state? Do wealthy corporations determine our policies and finances without the representation of America’s voters?
THAT GOOD OLD BOYS CAMP (FROM BOTH PARTIES) HARBORS ALL OF THESE SINS:

AND POSSIBLY WORSE?
Do these “harmless antics” threaten the whole nation today? They do not reflect a sober godly leadership in any case. Indeed, it looks a little worse than the casual attitudes of the H.M.S Titanic. This is possibly harmless but probably covers a few sins in its secrecy. No secrets escape God so we can trust him to manage our world. The real question is: Are these the people we want to sell our votes to?
HOW CAN WE MAKE THE GREATEST IMPACT FOR CHRISTIANITY? BY ADDING TO A BIPARTISAN EFFORT
Luke 9: 12-17
12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.
13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.
14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.
15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.
17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
So by sight we may not have enough to do anything meaningful here. Fortunately these disciples of Jesus walked by faith, and just did what they were asked to do. All they were able to do was to add their limited offerings to the meal. It was up to Jesus to multiply that offering.
So from small additions God is responsible to multiply the offering to meet the need. However, there are often people on hand who are willing to take something away, to subtract from the effort. They serve their god Satan, who amplifies their efforts by division. Subtraction, negativity, selfishness, greed, and corruption are works of darkness.
Suppose there was a chance for both parties to add to the need and see God multiply the effort? Can we make a small contribution to the other side that could enable a bipartisan effort? What of these party aims? Can we identify any limited compromises to co-exist for some common goals?
- ABORTION: Oppose clinic bombings, more counseling and adoption options?
- HOMOSEXUALITY: Gain assurances this is not to be forced on churches
- IDOLATERS Solidify relations with Israel, increase evangelism to Moslems
- LIARS Amnesty camps with citizenship classes near border fences.
- THIEVES: End corporate donations: several bipartisan groups working now
- COVETOUS: ditto
- REVILERS: Demonstrate unity against the dividing forces.
- UNHOLY Christian behavior examples, tolerance, love, witness.
When I see liberals working with conservatives I know that some compromises are being accommodated. Christians should be especially adept at tolerance and patience. Godly love can open doors to unexpected relationships. We may even open doors to salvation for some. It isn’t easy to bring opposites to work together. We have been able to do this in time of war. My army experience brought me in contact with a wide variety of people from all over America, and even some from the Philippines! The man in the next foxhole is covering a flank of your very survival.
The dividing of America is our one true enemy at this time. Much of that division is being funded by corporations that avoid taxes while undermining our economy and our freedoms. We are truly facing taxation without representation when the wealthy buy our elected officials from both parties. It’s time to say that the party is over.
What have corporations done for America in the past? Here are a few examples:
Is it unreasonable to think that a Christian might work with others to limit this kind of influence on our elected officials? Bipartisan efforts are bringing a lot of people from many backgrounds and beliefs together. There is tolerance of differences because of the urgency of the mission. Here are some of the ongoing efforts to eliminate corporate and other influences from government:

Congress is the only branch that can enact fundamental reform. But they are not acting on our behalf because Congress belongs to the rich.
Without significant and dramatic pressure from the ground up, Congress will not change. In recent years, there have been important victories in this fight against big money – on the state level – where citizens have passed referenda to enact citizen-funded, small donor elections.
But what’s missing is an elected cadre of leaders willing to defend these reforms and take them further. In 2016, MAYDAY.US is building a national grassroots network to support these leaders. We call them, Champions of Democracy.
We’re using the most powerful tool we have: The People. We’ve got citizen activists in 18 states and counting, working at the grassroots on behalf of these Champions of Democracy.
By the election day, 2016, we’ll have teams in all 50 states – fighting for our most courageous reformers.
We have a plan to win
A REAL SOLUTION TO CORRUPTION
The American Anti-Corruption Act sets a standard for local, state and federal laws to:
Stop the bribery
The Act prevents lobbyists from donating to politicians and/or offering them any deals that could influence policymaking.
End secret money
The Act mandates full transparency: disclosure of all political money and “bundlers” who gather contributions for politicians.
The Act imposes strict limits on PACs, and gives voters an annual $100 tax rebate to be spent supporting the candidate or party of their choice.
These two groups have slightly different approaches to similar goals. If we don’t have perfect collaboration, we at least offer another chance for you to vote on your own favorite. A multi-pronged approach may improve the chance of success. But changing the law is not the only path to change.
Now I can also suggest an even bolder step. the Republican party has contributed to social programs in America in past times. We do have their contributions to socialism now:
In 1862 , in the midst of the Civil War, Republican Justin Smith Morrill stood in Congress to defend his party’s invention: an income tax . The government had the right to demand 99 percent of a man’s property, the Vermont representative thundered. If the nation needs it, “the property of the people . . . belongs to the government .” The Republican Congress passed the income tax — as well as a spate of other taxes — and went on to create a strong national government. By the time the war ended, the GOP had invented national banking , currency and taxation ; had provided schools and homes for poor Americans; and had freed the country’s 4 million slaves.
A half-century later, when corporations dominated the economy and their owners threw their weight into political contests, Theodore Roosevelt fulminated against that “small class of enormously wealthy and economically powerful men, whose chief object is to hold and increase their power.” Insisting that America must return to “an economic system under which each man shall be guaranteed the opportunity to show the best that there is in him,” the Republican president called for government to regulate business, prohibit corporate funding of political campaigns, and impose income and inheritance taxes.
With such a great legacy is it unreasonable for Republicans or Christians to consider helping to improve America with some social programs? Beyond overcoming corporate contributions there is a candidate who wants to make some reforms. If we are not afraid of the term “socialism” there may be an alternative to the Donald.
Today I registered as a Democrat here in Wyoming. It is unlikely that Bernie Sanders could win over the Republican candidate here, but we may be able to contribute to getting him the Democratic nomination here. That might make it easier for other states to get him elected. If this idea produces fear we may need to remember our faith. The early church in Jerusalem shared things in a form of a commune not unlike the kibbutz of modern Israel. We used to fear godless communism, perhaps we should also fear godless capitalism today.
CHARTING A COURSE
Leaders make choices that affect the course of the people who enable their plans. The Captain of the Titanic wore the honors of the ship line that reflect his years of good service. His choice to set speed records in dangerous waters may have been from pride or glory seeking. But the passengers would never consider him to be evil or criminal as they came aboard or as they enjoyed the splendor of the great voyage. The outcome must have been shocking to all as the situation became clear after some bumps in the night. Will the leaders of our world measure up even this well when the world recognizes where we are today?
