Jeremiah’s Hope

Titanic 2

Jeremiah was to speak to the nations, not just Israel.  It is time for the nations to start listening to Jeremiah.  If we are going to consider his words, we need to consider the context of his life too.  I cannot take a message that has no scriptures, and they must be understood for the context of their story and times.  But the Word of God is a name given to Jesus, so these are more than just dead history.  The prophets pointed to the future, which is also today and days yet to come.  We need this map.

I cannot climb a ladder with a broken rung or a slippery stair safely.  Similarly I cannot climb a sermon with incomplete or confused references to scriptures.  I need the whole understanding of the matter.  So now I investigate a scripture that needs more understanding.

When I read Jeremiah 12, I hear Jeremiah complaining about the ungodly corruption around him in Israel and Judah.  He only got four verses into his complaint before his words change.  At times we may answer our own questions, but here I believe that the Lord has taken over his conversation.  In verse 5 we hear God answering Jeremiah’s question.

If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?  Jeremiah 12:5

So he observes that Jeremiah has not been victorious over the minor annoyances of his times in Israel.  So God asks how he can expect to overcome the cavalry that is coming after these mere infantry attacks.  If he is troubled in the peaceful land of Israel that he has trusted, how will he continue against a flood of troubles that is coming?

God goes on to explain that he is not happy with his people, Jeremiah’s brethren have betrayed him and God alike.

For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.  I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.  Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it. Jeremiah 12:6-8

Their words are sweet, but there is blood on their feet, even as our leaders today.  The church and political leaders have corrupted Israel as our leaders are doing today.  This is not encouragement to expect a victory, but rather a warning of punishment to come.  It gets worse.

Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.  Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.  They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.  The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the Lord shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.   They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the Lord. Jeremiah 12:9-13

We know that the land was divided as Judah and Israel, and both kingdoms were headed for judgment.  Jeremiah was their warning to avert this.  But God already knew what their decision would be.  Jeremiah would remove any claim they might make for an excuse.  From this verse on the Lord has clearly taken over the conversation.  Jeremiah proclaims that this is the word of God:

Thus saith the Lord against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.  And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.  And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The Lord liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.  But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the Lord. Jeremiah 12:14-17

No, Israel will NOT be able to face the judgment that God will bring from Babylon.  Jeremiah will have to steel himself against the horrors of a far more ungodly onslaught that is coming.  To prepare for that cavalry is to accept either subjugation to God or a horrible defeat.  We do not have to be prophets to read the prophets.  The future is already in place and declared by these who he called to warn us.

Is America exempt from the judgment that Israel experienced?  Certainly God protected Jeremiah and the godly men, but he was to endure time in the sewer under the prison.  A rebellious puppet king would lose his children and his eyesight in Babylon.  Do we have any promise about our future?  There is a mysterious story about a nation of wealth that is branded as being a Babylon that burns in Revelation 18.  Is that not a prophesy of the future to come?  And who IS that nation most comparable to in our time?

The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,  And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!  For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,  And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!  Revelation 18:15-18

What city or nation is like this great city indeed?  A nation that will not receive Christian refugees from battlefields in “shithole” nations?  A nation that will not care for their own poor?  A nation that cannot discern wolves in sheep’s clothing?  A nation that honors giant occultist congregations who follow the wealthy and powerful oppressors of the poor?

Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?  But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?  Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?  If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:  But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.  For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.  James 2: 5-10

When I was a baby Christian, I witnessed two televangelists accusing each other of sin on television.  They both were standing with their lawyers.  I knew that scripture condemns taking a brother to a secular court, so I knew immediately that both were wrong.  Jimmy and Jimmy were both of the Assembly of God denomination, so why didn’t their elders mediate?  Perhaps the house of God is in rebellion against God too?  that sounds a lot like the Israel and Judah of Jeremiah.  I was horrified to hear my churches singing a song based on the prophesies of Joel.

Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand;  Joel 2:1

Don’t they know that is the warning of the coming judgment where God would send Babylon to defeat Israel?  The army coming is NOT the Army of Israel or America, it is the army of God’s destruction and judgment.  To prepare for that cavalry would require a totally different kind of warfare.  America today is preparing for that military threat.  I know because my company will be bidding on some new urgency that the Defense Department is about to announce.  But that is not the weapons training that we need today.  that will not bring victory as it has in the past.  Our weapons cannot change the prophesy of God.  We need spiritual weapons training now.  Jeremiah and Daniel survived by the same power that made Joseph (a convicted sex offender) the prime minister of Egypt.  Even a baby Christian has access to scriptural training in this.

We cannot afford to be deaf to the prophets or the news of current events.  America is forming a new branch of the armed forces, a Space Force.  This is probably a violation of international treaties, but ask the native Americans how we honor treaties.  Why the sudden concern about the biggest military force in the world?  For one thing we are sending jobs and commerce to China, which makes them rich and powerful.  They are outpacing our technological development as our college tuition crushes education here.  Further, decades of intervention in foreign nations has generated a lot of enemies that were once our allies.  That is a great talent of American leadership.  Did you know that Ho Chi Minh wanted to be an ally of the U.S.?  Did you know that presidents Johnson and Nixon covered up a lie about what started the Vietnam War?  Read your recently declassified history, but believe the prophets and recognize the signs along the road.  You can know where we are going, and how close we are.

Israel will be saved by Messiah…after they are nearly defeated.  Again, I am not a prophet, but I can read the prophets.  Israel can expect a hard time and those armies are gathered all around them today, the Philistines (Palestinians), Russians, Jordan, Persians (Iran), Syria, Lebanon, and ISIS in Egypt.  Even the Chinese are expressing opinions as Korea shares missile technologies.  Where will American and all our Christian beliefs be?  Will we be putting out the fires of new Babylon?  We are already confusing the situation by alienating friends and joining with evil nations.  The story does not begin well.

Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.  And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.  In that day, saith the Lord, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.  Zechariah 12:2-4

Note:  we will return to Zechariah 12:4 in a few lines to confirm that this is not a past event.  this is a prediction that is still unfulfilled.

America wants to burden themselves with Israel, and God says that we will be cut in pieces for that.  We are not the salvation of Israel, but God alone will be.  We must take care to come out from among the false prophets and be citizens of the Kingdom of God first, and America last.  Christians may endure some discomfort as the prophets did unless God raptures us out of the worst of this.  But what is that “rapture” hope?  Could we Christians be released from prison (or other suffering?) by the enemies of America as Jeremiah was released by the Babylonians?

While Jeremiah had been confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him: “Go and tell Ebed-Melek the Cushite, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfill my words against this city—words concerning disaster, not prosperity. At that time they will be fulfilled before your eyes. But I will rescue you on that day, declares the Lord; you will not be given into the hands of those you fear.  I will save you; you will not fall by the sword but will escape with your life, because you trust in me, declares the Lord.’”  Jeremiah 39: 15-18

The word came to Jeremiah from the Lord after Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard had released him at Ramah. He had found Jeremiah bound in chains among all the captives from Jerusalem and Judah who were being carried into exile to Babylon.  When the commander of the guard found Jeremiah, he said to him, “The Lord your God decreed this disaster for this place.  And now the Lord has brought it about; he has done just as he said he would. All this happened because you people sinned against the Lord and did not obey him.  But today I am freeing you from the chains on your wrists. Come with me to Babylon, if you like, and I will look after you; but if you do not want to, then don’t come. Look, the whole country lies before you; go wherever you please.”  However, before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Go back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the towns of Judah, and live with him among the people, or go anywhere else you please.”  Then the commander gave him provisions and a present and let him go.  So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah and stayed with him among the people who were left behind in the land. Jeremiah 40: 1-6

So the faithful prophet was saved, and the faithful of Israel are also expecting to be saved in the future.  As they are joined to Yeshua Ha Meschia we will all be one in the Kingdom of God.  They will behold the one they pierced in victory, but also in sorrow.

In that day, saith the Lord, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.  And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the Lord of hosts their God.  In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.  The Lord also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.  In that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the Lord before them.  And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.  And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.  In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.  And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;  The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart;  All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.  Zecariah 12: 4-14

Note: as promised I returned to Zecariah 12: 4.  We can see that this leads to the prediction of salvation for Israel from their messiah Yeshua.  Because this has not yet happened, the previous prediction of destruction is still awaiting any who try to help Israel in the future ahead of us.  America is among their only allies at this time.

While this revelation of Jesus, Yeshua, is horrible in discovering their historical sin, it is covered in the prophetic grace of forgiveness.  They have been prepared with a preview of this reunion with a lost son.  Joseph was a type of the dead son reunited with his fearful brethren.

And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.  Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.  For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.  And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.  So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.  Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:  And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children’s children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:  And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.  Genesis 45: 4-11

At this point, the nations that opposed Israel and the church will be vanquished.  But how do we endure the wait for this help?  Babylon burning cannot be a good sign for a nation that tried to be a friend to Israel.  Joseph is again a hope for those who are enduring a season of judgment.  When Daniel was taken to Babylon as a prisoner of war he had the example of Joseph as an inspiration.  Under the worst government there is always a way to serve God and prosper.  While being a prisoner both men performed their masters as if they were performing a service unto God.  They maintained a relationship with God and he became their provider.  God himself came to us and served the father right to the point of death.  Not even the evil of the Roman Empire could match the power of God to overcome death.  From these we may harvest life.

This is the weapons training of spiritual warfare; Christians are a minority and need a real power.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  Matthew 7:13-14

We cannot win by mighty armies or even by popular vote.  But with God our good light may be amplified like the lens of a lighthouse.  Our deliverance will come as for Israel, by God’s own hand.  We have no strength to win by offending others, a way that has blemished the testimony of our not completely Christian nation.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.  Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.   Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.  Matthew 7:15-23

Now we Christians have a clear commandment to beware of the spirit of Anti-Christ.  It is our duty to be right, even as Jeremiah was compelled to speak the truth in the face of bitter opposition.  So we have been given tools by which to measure the words of men.  Do our leaders line up with all of these directions?

My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.  For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;  And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:  Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?  Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?  But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?   Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?  If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:  But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.  James 2: 1-9

As both political parties suck the same rich tit, our nation is condemned to sin.  Yet the new bipartisan efforts to fight against corruption draw support from both the socialists and the Tea Party!  Perhaps Christians should be leading this effort.  This money is now coming from corporations and foreign governments.  When elected officials depend on big donations they are serving the rich instead of you…on your tax dollar.  Is this not taxation without representation?  How can they serve God with a lie?

When a “church” disrupts a military funeral to scream about sin, are they engaging in the practice of “railing”?  When we insult sinners in public for being gay, trans-sexual, or supporting abortion, are we on the path that God has ordained for us?  Do we win souls to Jesus by making laws about their marriage, or employment rights?  How do we reach a soul who may be regretting a decision to abort their baby?  Do we remind them that the baby is not found in sin, and encourage the adult to avoid God’s judgment?  Do we support officials who only talk against abortion while their donors drive their real agenda?

Do my leaders follow the wisdom of the Proverbs, or do they only say they are Christians?  But then Solomon was only the stenographer of Proverbs, he ignored them too!  He at least did repent and point to God in the end.  Unfortunately Israel continued to follow his sins, and marched off to Babylon.

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.  Proverbs 6:16-19

In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.  Proverbs 10:19

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.  James 1:26

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.  Proverbs 22:10

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.  Proverbs 15:1

A fool’s lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating.  Proverbs 18:6

It is not good to be partial to the wicked or to deprive the righteous of justice.  Proverbs 18:5

These men are deceptive, but they are only the minor annoyances of our nation and times.  If we cannot contend with these amateurs without being deceived, we are not ready for the real Anti-Christ.   These are only the infantry, and we cannot be found on the side of the backslidden when the judgment of God is promising to clean house on this earth.  We cannot place citizenship in a nation above that of the Kingdom of God.  It will be better to live in the low places of faith than the high places of compromise.  The prophets were poor, homeless, unpopular, and still able to bless a faithful widow with the provision of God.  Now we need to prepare for the real threat which may include miracle workers who seduce even many religious people.  You can entertain your nightmares in Revelation 13, but read the end of the book too.  God has a way to overcome.

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.  Matthew 24:24

We do need to have the weapons of spiritual warfare, and training is available.  We have a three strand cord of great strength; the Holy Trinity.  For discernment we need to have a balanced relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  Who are they?

  1. Jesus taught us to pray to “Our Father”.  We have a relationship with the father in prayer.
  2. Jesus is called “The Word” so we study the bible for a relationship with Jesus.
  3. The Holy Spirit fills believers so our fellowship is our connection to him.

If we are hearing from the wrong god we need the bible and the church.

If we do not understand the bible we need prayer and the church.

If our church is offering cool aid we may need prayer and bible study.

The prophets avoided the temple because the priests were often too close to the kings.  But they could have fellowship in the community, so they were still connected to the holy spirit.  Their prayers were answered, sometimes in the midst of their complaints, so the Father was with them.  They announced the messiah in every part of both testaments so they walked with him always.

Three Hebrew children entered a fire where they alone were the gathering of the saints, and their prayers brought the living word to them.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.  Matthew 18:20

You cannot be disarmed when you maintain your spiritual weaponry in regular fellowship with the Trinity.  You can discern the way.  Walk in it.
